Hello, members of the public. We are Anonymous. In February 2008, we took to the streets as part of an ongoing conflict with the Church of Scientology. So that you may fully understand why we have done this, we have shot and released a feature-length film about why we have taken our present course of action. We have named it "The Authorities", an indication of not only the control that the Scientology organisation exerts over its members but how the Organisation wishes to be seen within society.
If you wish to obtain this film, copies will be handed out at our protests around the world. It is also available online through many different places. We have made a large effort so this film can be obtained as quickly and as easily as possible. We hope you watch it and fully understand the Church of Scientology and our actions for what they truly are.

It has come to the attention of Anonymous that there are a number of you out there who do not clearly understand what we are or why we have undertaken our present course of action. Contrary to the assumptions of the media, Anonymous is not "a group of super hackers". Anonymous is a collective of individuals united by an awareness that someone must do the right thing, that someone must bring light to the darkness, that someone must open the eyes of a public that has slumbered for far too long, that someone must counter assholes with great lulz.
Among our numbers you will find individuals from all walks of life - lawyers, parents, IT professionals, members of law enforcement, college and graduate students, veterinary technicians and more. Anonymous is everyone and everywhere. We have no leaders, no single entity directing us - only the collective outrage of individuals, guiding our hand in the current efforts to bring awareness.
We want you to be aware of the very real dangers of Scientology. We want you to know about the gross human rights violations committed by this cult. We want you to know about Lisa McPhearson. We want you to know about former members of Scientology's private navy, SeaOrg, who were forced to have abortions so that they could continue in service to the church. We want you to know about Scientology's use of child labor and their gulags. We want you to know about Operation Freakout and Paulette Cooper. We want you to know about Operation Snow White and Scientology's efforts to infiltrate the government of the United States of America.
We want you to know about all of these things that have been swept under the rug for far too long. The information is out there. It is yours for the taking. Arm yourself with knowledge.
Be very wary of the 10th of February. Anonymous invites you to join us in an act of solidarity. Anonymous invites you to take up the banner of free speech, of human rights, of family and freedom. Beyond February 10th, beyond the hype and beyond the anticipation, Anonymous predicts a public outpouring of attention on the actions of the Church of Scientology. No longer will they be simply dismissed as a small sect of people with strange beliefs, but as a dangerous menace that needs to be rubbed out.
As Anonymous descends full force on Scientology organizations worldwide in protest, the media will have no choice but to acknowledge the very real war in which we are waging against them. They will be forced to discuss our motives, investigate the facts which with we use to fight them, and show where their allegiance lies.
Be not mistaken, Scientologists will be quick to label us as monsters, even as they are monsters, unleashing their propaganda and spin doctors upon the media like lions unto their prey. As an organization of individuals lead by no one, we have no such luxury. We must remain vigilant and steadfast in our course; we must not be swayed or disheartened, but believe that a public armed with knowledge will be able to push through the web of lies and see the truth.
Social unrest will follow social awareness, social revolt will follow social outcry, and at the end of all of this there will be change.

While the birth of Anonymous was gradual and incongruous happenstance, the previous week has underlined the massive presence, depth, and conviction of our legions worldwide. What began as a subtle response to your censorship of the interwebs, evolved into much more as our dedicated many researched and witnessed your very dangerous nature. Coincidentally, after you tried (and failed) to tarnish BBC reporter John Sweeney's reputation using Youtube, he made this prophetic statement:
"..a new generation is making up its own mind about Scientology.."
We felt the need today not only to thank you, but to declare a victory regarding the first week's battle for Web 2.0. Millions of people worldwide have become aware of your cult-like nature, and the suppression of your critics. You can now do nothing to stop the flow of free information regarding your cult in our arena. We have won, but only the home game.
While Anonymous is already spilling out into the streets, and rooting itself into the mainstream media, February 10th marks the beginning of our offline campaign. Much like your treatment of Lisa McPherson, your contact with the world as you know it will be severed. You will be starved, dehydrated, and left for dead -- figuratively, of course. Considering the nature of Anonymous, the only certainty regarding our actions is that there will be no mercy.

Hello: this is Anonymous. This message is meant to clarify, one more time, the reason for this unprecedented generation of collective outrage.
Only after we stopped laughing at Mr. Cruise's insane performance for DM's cameras, which was clearly targeted at attracting more people to Scientology's never-ending "path to total freedom", did various and fragmented communities begin discussing what Scientology was trying to achieve with this leaked propaganda. Many became curious and quickly learned the horrible truth about the corporate actors that operate your religion under the pretense of being non-profit, and the various and layered shell of companies that exist merely to obscure and obfuscate the flow of your money.
Many already knew the terrible secrets, because Scientology has had numerous and public critics for decades; we know about the harassment and frivolous litigations against their critics - nobody criticizes your beliefs, only the bad behaviors of those who manage your Religion. We learned about the death of Lisa McPhearson and many others, and your religion's Management's attempts to evade the consequences of what had happened, their actions and misdeeds that lead to avoidable, and often undignified deaths. We learned about your Operation Snow White, in which the corporation's leadership massively infiltrated various arms of the United States Government - the IRS, the FBI, and anyone they thought might have had a file about the management of your Religion. Through destruction of documents, illegal wire-tapping, blackmail campaigns, and other forms of treason against the government, they suppressed documented truth and subverted the government of your own country to do so. One of the earliest critics, Paulette Cooper, was subjected to Operation Freak-Out, in which the Management's secret-agents sought to have her critic driven insane and/or incarcerated. They succeeded in framing her for false bomb-threats, and she was incarcerated, but subsequent government raids on management facilities yielded documents of their frame-up and their victim was exonerated of all wrong-doings. Her crime? She criticized their management of your Religion publicly.
Your management claim to operate a tax-exempt religion. Their actions belie the fact that they are a massive for-profit corporation, and they profit at the great expense of you, the parishioners, the victims for which we feel this collective, unifying sense of outrage.
We ask: Why do so many students become employees of this Church? Because they can no longer afford to pay the Church for any more of the courses and texts required for advancement, but they are assured that it is nearly within their grasp. By this stage in their training, many have lost their homes due to mortgages obtained or refinanced solely to pay for more and more training from Scientology. We learned further that, after giving everything to this organization - their lives, all their net worth, and now their actual bodies, they work day and night in exchange for free training with what little free time given them. They force you to disconnect from trouble-causing family and friends, when the only trouble-causing was questioning exactly what you, their loved ones, have decimated your lives for. We find this abhorrent, and we will no longer allow these facts to remain hidden. If not us, then who? And if not now, then when? Anonymous has promised you - we will bring you the truth, and the truth will liberate you. And while we have already begun to deliver on our promise, we also promise you this: we have only just begun.
If you truly believe that your Tech is your religion, we believe in and affirm your right to your beliefs - we do not understand them, but they are yours to have and keep. We firmly believe that nobody should be so extensively and inhumanely victimized as you, the believers, have been, to study and practice your religion. We firmly believe that if your Religion believes it's way is the true path to total freedom, all should be able to study it freely, as they can every other religion. How can you put a price on enlightenment and the way to live a good life, regardless of what you believe these to be? Most religions have their own unique expenses, this is an obvious truth - but these expenses are incidental in nature, they are not required to learn and worship based on doctrine that is fundamentally open for all to know. Scientology's management has hidden your true beliefs behind strict copy-write and relentless litigation to prevent it from non-paying, public knowledge.
For these reasons, we will relentlessly pursue revocation of the organization's tax-exempt status - this will be an important milestone in our campaign. We will zealously expose and publicize the lies and hypocrisy of the current leadership of your Religion, and continue to shine the light of truth in their darkest corners.
Surely, the frustrations you may feel with your progress towards enlightenment and total freedom cannot possibly be caused by Anonymous, for who are we to you? Your true SP are those who change your Tech to make your journey across the Bridge ever-longer - DM and the RTC. I will close with words lent from a fellow Anonymous - "our efforts will ebb and flow, but our persistence will be as reliable as the tides". Of this, you can be certain.

We have been watching your reporting of Anonymous's Conflict with The Church of Scientology. We find it interesting that you did not mention the other objections in your news reporting, such as the stifling and punishment of dissent within the totalitarian organization of Scientology, and the numerous alleged human rights violations, such as the treatment and events that led to the deaths of victims of the cult, such as Lisa McPherson.
This cult is nothing but a psychotically driven pyramid scheme. Why are you, the news media, afraid of discussing these matters? It is your duty to report on these matters. You are failing in your duty.

I am an /i/nsurgent first, a /b/tard second, and an all around Anonymous, but I know that for a fight against the Beast it will take more than what every chan combined can muster. We might be rivals; hell, we might hate each other's guts, but this goes beyond just us. The people of the Internet, Anonymous, LLers, the Goons of SA, OTers who were previously thwarted in an attempted stunt at the Mission: Impossible 3 opening, the YTMNDers, various hacker groups, trolls of the world, the GameFAQs members, the Gaians, the eBaumers, and the Mxicans; us old time Internet users, and the newest of noobs, the YouTubers and MySpacers, must band together for a fight that transcends our differences and takes us to a level beyond our individual selves. When things happen to Scientology, like that South Park episode or Tom Cruise going insane on Oprah's show, Scientology loses lots of credibility. A very large group of people has declared a "war" on the Church of Scientology. They call themselves Anonymous. Many feel that this group is a bunch of hackers. While this is partially true, they are much more. Their manifesto is evidence that they are a large group of people from all walks of life. Some happen to be very computer literate. They have decided to fight for the freedom of knowledge and information. Many other people have tried to reveal the truth about the Church of Scientology. Unfortunately these attempts have ended in failure. The Church sends out cease and desist orders to anyone who tries to speak out against them. They have a history of violating people’s right to privacy by revealing secrets to the public. They intimidate their critics, and even resort to stalking their perceived enemies. The Church originally instituted a "fair game" policy on all critics. "Enemies of the church could be injured, tricked, sued, lied to or destroyed. Fair game." - L. Ron Hubbard (Creator of the "Church" and the "religion"). That policy remains, but the name "fair game" has been removed. This is a threat to the freedom of information and knowledge that Anonymous is fighting for.
Anonymous has nothing against religion, although they may ridicule some of the more interesting concepts. They believe in freedoms and they are not trying to undermine freedom of religion. Their fight is strictly against the Church of Scientology. The websites associated with Anonymous have been attacked frequently, ordered to be silenced by the church's lawyers. The Church has some of the best lawyers possible. They also have members in many government agencies. They are currently tax exempt, under the claim that they are a non-profit organization. But how can a Church that charges its members for sermons/sessions/audits claim to be non-profit? It can cost up to $300 per session, and over $300,000 for their complete series of sessions and audits. This is not a religion, folks. They are not being religiously persecuted. The Church of Scientology claims to be both a religion and a business, when it is in fact neither; it is simply a cult. They prey on people's emotions.
They victimize people in terrible ways, period. They make children work for long hours, give them almost no schooling, and deny them a childhood. As well, they forcibly detain people who wish to leave the church...and compel families to reject people who leave the church.

What else is the Church of Scientology guilty of? They are guilty of murder. Scientologists do not practice modern medicine; they believe that psychiatry is a false science that kills. Scientology ignores the fact that psychiatry is based on the scientific method requiring objective experimentation and peer review. They have had frequent cases where they take followers off their needed modern psychiatric medication and instead they give them vitamins and auditing sessions. The result, depending on the ailment, can be fatal. Many deaths have occurred in the Church of Scientology's headquarters in Clearwater, FL. Recently a group of buildings in California associated with the "Church" of Scientology claimed to have received envelopes in the mail that contained a "mysterious, white powdery substance". The powder was found to be harmless and no people exposed to it suffered any damage to their health. However, the implications behind such a report may cause people to believe that Anonymous is "responsible" for this attack on the Church.
The media is once again misrepresenting the truth by unbalanced reporting. The "Church" of Scientology, with its wealthy supporters, may even be encouraging these incorrect portrayals. After all, they say that Anonymous is a bunch of "computer nerds" that they are not afraid of.
Anonymous does not work like most organizations you have come across before, and therefore your common understanding of "responsibility" cannot logically be applied to us. Anonymous should not be thought of as a single entity, with a focus on a single path to a single goal - there is no hierarchy; there are no order-givers or order-takers. Rather, we work as individuals or as small groups, getting our ideas about what to do by communicating with each other.
Whoever did this was a small group who made their own choice for their own actions, and they are the ones who are responsible. They may not even be Anonymous (they might even have been a plant by the "Church" of Scientology as black propaganda); we do not know, and by the nature of our organization, cannot know.
However, be assured that the vast majority of us have not attempted to organize any actions which will cause physical or mental damage to any persons. This is indeed self-evident, if you will look past the distortions of the media - because out of the many (estimate: hundreds of) thousands of us participating in this project, the media has only managed to produce ONE report of such an action.
At the beginning of this project, we employed tactics of prank phone calls, black faxing and DDoS attacks. The aim was effectively to gridlock communication within the church to get the attention of as many members, particularly their legal team, as possible. Then to use the media attention of us as hacktivists and troublemakers. This way we could appreciate the passive support of a media and public that knew we were doing the right thing. This objective was achieved around the 23rd-25th of January, and has more or less completely been discarded as a useful tactic now.
It's an oft made mistake, even made by other anti-Scientologists that the initial phase was to silence the Church. This is not the case, it was quite the opposite; to get the public to research it. While it is certainly possible that this hoax is of an anonymous, it is clearly not supported by the vast majority of active members. [edit] An Extended Message to the "Church" of Scientology
There are three orders of Scientologists.
The third order is the believer. They are the followers, the quiet believers, the ones on whom the Church relies for its income. While they are indeed foolish or susceptible to trickery, they are not to be hated. They are to be pitied, and to be saved. Our mission is to free them from the shackles of their blindness. They are but the lambs gone astray; in the promises of Scientology, they have sought a new and improved life. They are being lured over the dark precipice, and we must rescue them from that brink before they cross it and fall into darkness forever.
The second order is the zealot. They are the spokespeople, the loud, abrasive megaphones through which the siren song of this dangerous cult blares. This is both the celebrity figureheads of the group, and its middle-lower management. They are to be fought, but with measured restraint. While active agents of this monstrous mockery of faith, they too are believers at heart. They must be defeated, but shown the light as well. For most in this category, there is hope, and we must not forsake them; there is still a chance they may see truth through unclouded eyes once more.
The first order is the overseer. They are the masterminds, the silent power structure through which their second order acts. These are the madmen on the ocean yacht, the proud financiers of mercenary legal teams, and the shrewd conspirators whose pockets are lined with the spoils of the Church’s lies. While the zealots shall be the ones we face upon the battlefield, they are but pawns of this highest division of vile swine. We must defeat their front ranks of indoctrinated pawns, but when at last we reach these foes we must cut them down without mercy.
It is to the first order we address the second part of this short treatise.

You are scum. You are the lowest of the low. Whether or not you believe an inkling of the impossible nonsense you trot out to masquerade as a religion, you are still guilty of the willing and knowing destruction of countless lives. You are charlatans of the highest order, and must be stopped in the name of reason, justice, honesty, and every other basic human virtue. You have committed innumerable treacheries against your fellow man; in the following text, we shall list the themes of your deplorable actions. Some shall seem similar, and many shall overlap, but each is an independent crime we directly and openly levy against you.
One. You charge exorbitant sums of money for what you claim is enlightenment. All texts and practices associated with gaining a greater understanding of your belief system require ludicrous sums of cash. Your entire Church’s structure is designed to ensnare those who invest in attempting to progress in the faith you promise them, and continue to drain them of money. Your greed is clearly evidenced in the carrot-and-stick methodology of cementing the faith of your constituency. The further one gets, the more one has been coerced into spending, and will go on spending so as not to lose face. What you claim is a hierarchy of faith is but a thinly veiled pyramid scheme to those who are not clouded in judgment by your lies.
Two. You attempt to dominate the lives of your followers at all costs. You denounce accepted medicine, psychology, and common sense as basic tenets of your Church. While you claim openness to other faiths, your dogma not only is starkly in contrast to that of other common faiths, but directly denounces them as fabrications meant only to distract and deter people from your twisted version of “the truth”. Mainstream religions act as a support system for its followers, not a guiding life force. While guidelines for living life are set forth and you may be judged for your actions, people are free to live life as they please. They are not egged on to rise in meaning “levels” of faith for a false sense of satisfaction for going so deep into your sick maze.
Three. You prey incessantly on your every opponent and have openly declared your desire for their total destruction. A true faith would attempt simply to attract followers; what you have chosen is an onslaught on so-called “heretics” reserved for, in mainstream religions, militant radicals and past atrocities. The ferocity of your hatred for non-believers, or even your conscientious and peaceful dissenters, finds parallel only in gun-toting fundamentalists and the Spanish Inquisition. Where commonly accepted religions just shun their detractors, you openly attempt to silence them. The upkeep of your illusions requires the constant limiting of free speech, which is counter to the aims of a rational and progressive world. There are both livelihood and lives undone by your work, and you must be punished for your errant destruction.
Four. You refuse to disclose the direct beliefs of your Church. Be it motivated by either greed or shame, you intentionally repress what you claim are the keys to happiness. There are numerous divisions and departments in your organization devoted to handling funds, acting more like the part of a corporation than a part of a religious institution. This fact alone is enough illustrates your inherent depravity. Any person who is truly aiming for the advancement of mankind would never dare demand a fee, as you do. Even those who you connive into throwing their money and their lives away in your name are not privy to much of your core information.
Five. You preach and exert a level of hubris that is repulsive to any person who truly knows your ways. You promise your faithful the power to become like gods, and to gain unachievable degrees of control over their lives. This, based on removing all 'thetans', of which it is impossible to tell how many there are and if they were 'removed' properly. This process can last as long as people are egged on to believe there's more 'thetans' to remove. On the backs of your deceived masses, you craft your iron-clad walls and slowly lose sight of the sun of reality; you begin to acclimate to the darkness of your own mania. You flaunt the laws of countries across the globe, strong-arming your way through court systems with your ill-gotten gains, trying to infiltrate the world of the rational day by day. And your head figure, the corpse of a science fiction huckster, which you have made to dance like some macabre puppet, has become the ultimate idol for the ultimate coven of idolaters.
Six. You tried to hide your guilt on all these pre-existing counts behind a mantle of faith. Your spineless self-defense knows no bounds of decency or morality; you seek every refuge you can, like a bubonic rat desperate not to drown in the brig of a transatlantic ship. We direct this message to you in good faith, with hopes that you better understand our motivations. Anonymous differentiates the actions of the leaders of your church from yourselves, and therefore wishes to assist you in this critical time. We ask that you take a moment to consider our message.
The Church of Scientology promises you the study of truth, and the better understanding of life. The Church promises personal salvation and the betterment of one's self. It strives for evolution to a higher state of being. These are goals most individuals have always endeavored for, but rarely attain.
So we ask you, have you ever considered why monetary assets are required to achieve this cardinal step of evolution? If Scientology is capable of bringing mankind into a new way of being, then why must its followers provide large sums of currency over extended periods in order to progress through the ranks of better understanding? An advanced society would recognize the importance of knowledge, and freely provide it to all those who wish to seek its bounty. Scientology leaders act against this doctrine, and vigorously fight to keep materials from public view. These actions only serve to benefit the leadership of Scientology, and not its followers.
The Church of Scientology has also been known to ask its followers to sever ties with friends and family when they are not also members of the church. We ask you to consider this, and why this segregation must occur in order for its followers to improve ones self. Family and friends provide a strength that others cannot, and would be an important asset in the effort of self improvement. Scientology leaders discourage this, because they do not wish you to discuss the practices of the church with outsiders. These actions only serve to benefit the leadership of Scientology, and not its followers.
Another critical issue is the legal history of the Church of Scientology. The church often refutes these illegal practices, and informs its followers that any such information is a fabrication, created to discredit the church and its members. But we ask you, have you ever investigated these claims for yourself? There are many official documents available which confirm the involvement of the Church of Scientology and its members in the very crimes it denies. One example is Mary Sue Hubbard herself, who pleaded guilty and was convicted of conspiracy against the United States of America, during "Operation Snow White".
The Church of Scientology is also known for its strong oppression of critics. We ask you, why would an organization striving to improve mankind feel the need to silence and discredit those who oppose its views? Such policies are not congruent with the publicly established goals of Scientology, nor are they the actions of an enlightened group.
The leadership of the Church of Scientology does not wish you to know of these kinds of events, but we ask that you examine these actions and the many accusations against the Church of Scientology, and come to your own conclusions of their legitimacy. Not doing so only serves to benefit the leadership of Scientology, and not its followers.

Fill in the location and make any minor changes you feel are necessary. I deliberately made no mention of "Anonymous" in this, but if you really think it will help (hint: they may already have been told Anon is a hate group or some such) then go for it.
Had originally referred to branches as orgs, but that terminology usually applies to one which are "higher up" than the everyday minor branches this letter was written to address.
If you do print and distribute this letter, remember to take precautions regarding envelopes and fingerprints. It's too close to the date for mail so I suggest either slipping it under the door during the night, or donning shades and hat and handing it directly to a member with a short "I've been asked to deliver this letter - I do not know anything about the contents" - then walk away and duck through a crowded food court or something.

You are no doubt aware of a rally regarding the Church of Scientology being held on the 10th of February. We would like to take a moment to explain and justify our intentions.

The rally aims to raise public awareness regarding unethical and immoral aspects of the CoS, primarily within the RTC. There will be no violence on the tenth, unless the Scientologists assault the peaceful protestors.
